Default ProteinShake Vs TunaSmoothy

I was just wondering if anyone knows which is best, protein shakes or the famous tuna smoothy (tuna liquidised in water). Im thinking 1 tin of tuna in about pint of water Vs the good old 2 scoops of protein powder in pint of whole milk. Im sure each one will have there own benefits but I am very interested to see how opinions vary. Any comments would be much appreciated, and also if anyone has any other protein concoctions Im all ear's..........................................

hello jack,

if i had to choose which one is better i would say the tuna smoothy.

mainly because shakes, just go in and out real qucik, and after all ,they are just a supplement

tuna is more of a real food.

i have tried a tuna smoothy before,i couldnt finish it

didnt like the taste. made me feel sick.

do you like them then?

have you thought about liquidising chicken and turkey

Apparently if you rinse the tuna for long enough it loses all the fishyness! I've also heard of people blending it with diet coke instead of water.....sounds horrible, but I've never tried it.

I think tuna smoothie is crap. Tuna has a really poor amino acid content unlike a quality protein powder, so you may digest 60 grams of protein but once your body chops up the available amino acids in an attempt to manufacture the ones it needs that tuna doesn't contain you may only have 30 grams of usable protein.

If you had a tuna drink with a boiled egg blended in or eaten alongside then that would be a different story......

I tend to mix a tin of tuna with about 200g of cottage cheese. it solves the amino problem and is easier to eat than tuna on it's own.

do you reckon you would lose some of the goodness? from rinsing it too long.?

i didnt even realise tuna had a poor amino acid profile, i just ate 2 cans just now :P

usually when i have tuna,,,, i have rice tuna and 2 eggs, and maybe a small glass of milk, depending on how i feel.

so i think i am fairly safe with the amino part

lol, NO! how could anyone like the taste of liquidised fish, I might sound like a wimp but all I do is hold my noise = no taste (until after) then its just a matter of keeping it down, I also fine that putting the water in the fridge before hand helps, dont know why, probably just me. I have thought about liquidising other stuff as well, I hear that bodybuilders with poor appetites just blend full meals and just down it, sounds much easier but dont think I could hack it.
