Slim·Fast

40g of carbs... 34 of which are sugars :S

so more than half of the calories come from sugar..

i think these things only make any difference to anyone because its replacing a proper meal with 220 cals.. which even then could be replaced far more sensibly to make an actual meal!

I dont feel hungry at all....

I NEVER used to have breakfast so always grabbed a huge lunch to compensate... this way i get something in me to keep me going to lunch...

Its actually been easier than i thought... i expected to be frigging starving... i have a couple of pieces of fruit during the day and plenty of water..

Just for the record i agree if i was having them AS WELL as a meal they would be pointless... but i am having them Instead of a meal.. they have 230 calories in a shake.. so if they fill me up they are going to be fairly good for overall calories...

Yeah but 3 mars bars fills me up too... Doesn't mean I want to replace a meal with them...

We can tell you what you want to hear mate or we can tell you honestly how it is...

CMinOz made a good post about CCKD diets.

I'd recommend you go and do some research about low and hi GI carbs, sugar, insulin, and their affects on fat storage - that should give you a good idea on how to structure a diet in order to ramp up fatloss while maintaining lean bodymass.

i cant really say too much tbh cos i started out with the same train of thought & it took me a long while to see any different (as it does with most things in this game for me lol)

BUUUUTTTT hehe

ok, the 220 cals is better than the nothing you were having before but... to put it simply.. which is better - 220cals from eating sugar straight from the bag or a couple of slices of wholemeal toast with a nice low-fat spread on them? hell.. i bet you feel much better walking around with that in you than you will with a milkshake lol

the whole idea with all of this has to be to put something in place that you can maintain forever - if you lose the weight and just skip breakfast and go back to your old eating pattern then you dont need me to tell you what will happen..

Abbs

The general point throughout this thread has been that Slimfast or any other such shakes are a waste of time, yes you will lose a bit of weight, but you would be better off starting to manage your blood sugar levels now which in turn will help with you satiety (feeling full after a meal).

If you were to read any of the diets on any of the bb or similar sites you will not find one that reccommends such high sugar in fat loss dieting.

As TH&S suggests, to lose some fat and keep it off you would be better using good quality protein shakes.

I had a think about it a bit more and thought I would write you a quick diet that is not too far removed from the one you posted, minus the fruit and slimfast (fruit has too much sugar to be included if fat loss is your aim).

8.00am 4 Poached/Boiled/Scrambled Eggs on two slices of wholemeal toast (no butter or margarine)
11.00am Protein Shake (any reputable brand, Extreme are pretty good apparently - you can't them in Australia)
1pm Stir Fry - Chicken and Green Vegetables - No rice/noodles or obvious carbs. Do not use a store bought sauce, if you must use sodium reduced Soy sauce, but not too much.
3pm Protein Shake
5.30 pm - 2 hard boiled eggs
6pm _ Gym
8pm Stir Fry as above (Cook too much and it is lunch for the next day) or Chicken and Vege's - no potatoes or obvious carbs, also no sauce.

The diet above should not cost you any more than the other diet and will provide you with enough food to build a bit of muscle whilst losing consistent body fat. You should probably start with about 300g chicken each meal and keep an eye on your weight and also how your clothes feel.

Also you may want to get some multi-vits and extra vit c in through tablets (not fruit).

Whatever you do, please don't keep wasting your money on these high-sugar shakes as they do not work in the long term and you are just throwing away your money.

Right....

I am bowing to superior knowledge... Chucked the shakes outs last night.

Your right about the sustainablilty problem with them... far better to have an overall diet change and cut out the crap and replace it with the stir fry and things..

So will try to follow the diet above for a few weeks.... could be interesting as i dont like eggs but we shall see!!

Thanks again for the help...

Am feeling FAR better now... Am trying to eat fairly healthy and am training relatively hard at the gym.. (For me anyway!!).

I have far more energy than i did on the slim fast shakes... Well at least now i have had my schoolboy error and got past it!!

I have a quick question about splits if any one can help? Am currently going to the gym other day.. how can i split up my weights workout.. for example is it good to do Chest with Back... Shoulders with Arms etc..

Am thinking that a 3 day split will work best... Any suggestions? I currently do legs on their own day. And on that day i do my cardio after my weights workout as my cardio is ski machine so find it kills me to do it first then legs...

Skiied 1 hour 7 mins on saturday while watching the football results come in so pretty pleased with that...

Cheers...
