Default Weight loss!

Hi, I've just joined the forum today and I was just wonder if you could give me some advice on lossing weight. I'm currently 210lbs and 5"11 and I'm only 16yrs i was just wondering how much I would have to lose before I could start bulk up for my holidays in july and wedding in August. Unfortunatley I can't afford to attend the gym but I have some dumbbells and barbell for weight lifting. any advice would be great.

I think what most people will advise is brisk walking on an empty stomach, I think it depends on ur fitness levels, I like to run at varying speeds, or put some time in on the cross trainer, that always helped me shift pounds. Other than that, u need to get ur diet sorted. I'm not sure what other more experianced members of this board think, but I personally don't like the idea of bulking up, I prefer to maintian a relaively low-ish body fat level and just build slowly, I'm sure others will prefer periods obulking and cutting etc, but I just don't like it (personal choice I guess).

Exclamation Re: Weight loss!

Thanks for advice, I'm currently consuming around 1500 calories everyday whilst also workout everynight, I have calculated that I should lose 2 pounds a week with my current lifestyle changes but i dont seem to loss any. could this be due to weight lifting or just errors in my diet which is preventing me from reaching my target weight of 170Ibs.
Mon - Biceps, Triceps and Abs
Tues - Chest, 15mins jump rope and 30mins jog
Wed - Shoulders, Legs and Back
Thurs - Biceps, Triceps with 15mins jump rope and 30mins jog
Fri - Chest, Back, Abs
Sat - Shoulders with 45mins jog (15mins sprinting during jog)
Sun - REST
I have college monday to friday so I usually take a packed lunch which varies from chicken salad sandwich, tuna salad sandwich or pasta salad box and 2 pieces of fruit and two bottles of water. At home I usually have homecooked food but I only have three carbs which are brown rice, potatoes and pasta.
Could you make any suggestions to help me reach my target weight by 11th July 2008, diet or workout information will be found very useful.

I think you wont have lost any weight because if you have just started lifting then you might have put on a slight bit of muscle so if you have lost fat you wont see it in the scales!

keep at it for a while and see if you can see changes is waist size and look in the mirror

if still no change post up your diet and maybe add more cardio

First off, your training WAY too much. You need to let your body rest. It is while resting that you recover, and ultimately grow. With this routine your triceps are being hit 6 days in a row!! You'll just get overtrained and lose muscle, which will slow down fat burning as it is the muscles that contain the mitochondria needed for burning fat.
You should change it to something along the lines of :-
Mon - Back, Biceps & Rear Delts
Wed - Chest, Front + side delts & Triceps
Friday - Legs.

Do 30 minutes of Cardio before breakfast (Fast walking or jogging) 5 times a week to help with the fat burning process. And diet wise you'll need more food.
Eat 6 small meals a day that give 40g protein, 30g carbs, 10-15 g fats per meal, this should give you roughly 2400 cals per day, with 240g protein, 180 g carbs and 75(ish) grams fat.
Proteins should be lean sources like chicken, Tuna, Turkey, Fish etc
Carbs should be Brown rice, Oats and lots of vegatables like green beans, broccolli, cauliflour, cabbage etc and your fats should be good fats like fish oils and nuts.
Remember, Feed the machine!!

Hi mate,
I know the problems you are going through. I am currently doing the same as you, in 2 months i have lost 2 and a half stone and have made good muscle gains. I tend to alter the workout weekly which seems to help with the muscle growth. But, for the dieting, the way in which i have made easy weight loss was taking Promax diet from Maximuscle (this is a meal replacement dieting shake) which i lost a stone and a half in a month on. I seriously recommend it and ebay is cheap for it. Since then though, the way in which i have lost the weight is the supplement of WHEY protein in my diet. im taking around 100-150 grams of protein a day on it, just a shake with breakfast, before bed and maybe one in the day (and always after my workout), i now eat a relatively low carb diet (one of 150grams about a day) and a low fat intake. If im strict on this im losing around 5-8 pounds a week. Im a lazy bastard when it comes to cardio and therefore i dont really do any but i find the weight still comes off me doing this diet and weight training is making my muscles bigger. im only 17 years old buddie so i know the stick people can give if ur over weight at our age. but attempt this diet and/or promax diet and hope u recieve results like me ! Hope this helps, all the best.

P J Boro

You have quite a while to lose the weight and working it out that is about 2lbs a week, which is a sensible rate, you need to consider your diet as if your calories go too low then your body will go into starvation mode and wiil hang on to the fat you have, I know this from experience.

As others have said cut down the weights to three days and do the cardio in the morning before you eat, I would start at a couple of mornings a week and add an extra day each week, I do 4 mornings a wek at the monet and I find this is enough and my body needs the 3 days rest to recover.

Good luck with your weight loss and the wedding

Take care
