Default Muscle groups trained together?

I train with free weights 3 times a week.

I train Chest & Triceps together, Back & Biceps together, Shoulders & Legs together.

I think im right in assuming that when performing a chest exercise you also train the triceps as secondary (chest primary).

I think im also right in assuming that when performing a back exercise you also train the biceps as secondary (back primary).

As such, ive always been led to believe that you should always train these muscle groups together. I always train the bigger muscle first and the smaller last..........4 chest exercises, followed by 2/3 tricep exercises. 4 back exercises, followed by 2/3 biceps.

Who agrees with the above theory OR who believes that these muscle groups should be trained in a different combination??

sounds good mate altho i usually train legs chest tris and legs back and shoulders every fourth day(cant squat and deadlift in the traditional way due to a back prob, but do partial trap bar deads for legs)

I dont train biceps on the day of back, I prefer to concentrate on them when they are not fatigued...but saying that I do do triceps on benching days (thats when I even bother doing them because I dont always train them directly).

But your workout split looks good to me mate.

I would go for what feels best. I tired a few combinations and have gone for ones which wont allow aching to prevent me from working other muscles. At the moment im doing a dorian yates routine which is roughly;

Day 1 - Legs and Arms
Day 2 - Chest and Calf
Day 3 - Back and Shoulders

Works well for me.

my splits the same as your mate

chest/tri's
back/bi's
legs/shoulders

i train biggest group one exersice and then small one exercise and repeat like that, sort of gives the biggest group a rest so i can hit it hard again.

iv found that now i train with this split i struggle more my bi's and tri's but if the muscle is getting hit well then i guess its doing it job.
