Default Noob needing advice guys

Hi Guys

Im a total noob to training and need advice.
I got type 1 diabetes a couple of years ago and find it harder to keep in shape, so i thought it was about time i toned up.
I have a good size spare room to the rear of the kitchen so i splashed a fare bit cash on a good treadmill and multi gym (nordic track and marcy) and i decked the room out so its conducive to training.
I know a lot of people say you wont use the equipment when its in your home, but i havent spent £1500 lightly, and my motivation is my overall health since getting diabetes.

Where i need advice guys is in the following areas:-

I plan to do a mix of weights and cardio 3-4 times a week. During each session how long should i do the weights for and then how long on the cardio in-order to tone up?

My primary objective is to loose weight and tone up,but i wouldnt mind bulking up a little too. Will the amount of sessions be enough to achieve this?

The areas where im getting a bit flabby are around the belly and the chest. When im working on the multi gym which excercises will best hep me reduce the fat and work on these areas?

Finally any other advice would be great guys.

thanks in advance.

shak,
remember to lose weight you need to do low intensity running (which means LIGHT running, but running a long time). get a heart rate monitor and make sure your heart rate stays below 100bpm (but as close as poss) to burnt the fat.

There's no point in just doing weight's without burning off the fat first

Personally I disagree. Weights + Cardio + Diet is my preferred method.

Weights will increase muscle mass which will increase the resting metabolic rate (the #kcals you burn naturally), cardio will increase CV fitness and increase kcals burned, diet will allow you to control the level at which you increase muscle / loose weight.

totally disagree with everything you have said here, it is a well known fact that Weights followed by cardio will use more fat for energy than either one alone plus the more muscle you have the faster your resting metabolism will be.....plus to actually use fat for energy whilst doing cardio you need to be at around 65% much more and you are using carbs for energy any less an you are not stoking the fire enough to burn fat to find you optimum level take your age from 220 then 65% of this number for me at 37 it is around the 123bpm mark...
