Default Insulin - Diabetic

I'm an insulin dependant diabetic and have recently started trying to bulk up. A friend recons that insulin has anabolic properties and should assist my attempts to put on a bit of muscle and bulk up....... is this true???

I'm new to all this and at the moment trying to bulk using whey protein and diet, as well as training of course. There are so many products on the market, can anyone assist by giving a brief breakdown of what a beginner should do to make satisfactory gains.

Thanks

Mark1

I think he was more after advice on insulin-specific manipulation to aid his training.

mark1 i suppose the easiest quick change you could make (please verify with a doctor) is to shoot your insulin upon waking and after your workout, with some very good quality protein like whey protein or some BCAAs, and some quality carbs (maybe high GI?) - please do research as its a medical related question though

Thanks guys!

Not sure about the insulin thing, but I'll see what happens, I guess, over the next few months. Not convinced that because I take insulin I'll see better gains!

I'll give the training routine a go and see how things progress. Thanks again. M

Don't take advice from anyone online regarding insulin usage unless they are very well experienced with slin - no disrespect to Nick but insulin can kill you.

Misunderstanding here i think....I'm not looking for advice on insulin. i've been a diabetic for over 24 years, so well aware of dangers of misuse. My question was does it have properties which will aid muscle gain? I'm taking it anyway and dont intend to change my dosage or methods, other than to compensate for my increased food intake. It was a friend who suggested there wher benefits, wrt musecle gains. Just wanted to see if there was anyone out there who could explain or rubbish this.

i dont think anyone on here is really qualified to give advice on this in all honesty mark...

pscarb knows his stuff... however i feel many people may be reluctant to make comment as insulin use requires a very fine knowledge of your own body and very specific bodybuilding nutrition... as you well know getting this wrong can kill you. obviously you have to accept that when advice is given sometimes people may only listen to parts of it or misinterpret it... and that could leave someone ggiving you that advice responsible for health problems!

the top and bottom of it is insulin helps transport nutrients through the bloodstream to the muscles... and obviously if you improve this process then the end result (muscles getting more nutrients means better growth) - kind of like fuel injection on a car i suppose!

although how this works with people who are in fact insulin dependent im not 100% sure... id suggest doing some research on this and maybe posting a seperate topic giving details on what type of insulin you use and when.. and what you currently eat etc. and just asking for knowledgeable opinions and experience of others in your condition of how to best structure your training and nutrition to avoid any "accidents".

however please keep in mind that for reasons mentioned above people may be reluctant to comment! hope this helps mate!
