Is swimming a good cardio or is it best to stick with the running :?:

Sure it is. Personally I'm not a great swimmer so avoid it.

Swimming is one of few exersizes that works just about every muscle another is rowing but the good thing about swimming is its not at all hard on your joints and running can cause trouble with those.

You may notice when doing cardio vascular exercises on land you get breathless alot easier however when you are swimming you dont run out of breath as easily yet you are getting a high intensive work out none the less. And sweat and smell is not an issue.

And as Dongle said it does work just about every muscle in the body and the joint thing is important. I think when you are running 4 times your body weight is pressured onto your knees whilst running on concrete and about twice when on a treadmill. With swimming you get none of that.

I agree, swimming is a great exercise if you have the time to go do it.

Yep, i went swimming prior to my first 2 contests and my muscles got so sore from it it was frightening, you don't really feel the resistance at the time but what a work out.

I didn't like swimming as a child and wouldn't contemplate going at all again untill recently bcos I got my eyes lasered to cure my terrible short sightedness.

I once went with an ex who was a competitive swimmer, swam up behind her and grabbed her by the boobies - yep you have guessed the next bit correctly, it was the wrong girl!

Thankfully my ex saved me from a sexual assault charge, but how red was my face, i looked like a ribena berry on viagra.

the only trouble with swimming is, if you are in good shape you spend 90% of the time standind up in the shallow, end or sitting on the side looking like a complete wanker so you dont get owt done anyway

I swim 10 lengths a day (ok maybe it is in the baby pool! - but it is nice a warm in there - unfortunately I don't think it is the pool heating that is to be held responsible for the rise in temperature! Ewwwwww!)

But other body parts aside, swimming will kick the sh*t out of your traps and delts...and give you a MEGA pump, which can't be a bad thing!

Just watch beginners, misinterpret the phrase "BREAST STROKE" and you will get banned from the club! – Legal action has been known to follow shortly after!

P.S. Following that you may have to share a cell with ”BIG Bubba” in the end cubicle that will introduce you to another form of bodybuilding which you may not appreciate quite as much as the version you have become accustomed to so far!

You have been warned!

P.P.S. I have never been introduced to BIG Bubba myself…. Honest guv - bloke down the pub told me!!!

(walks away from the keyboard with a sever limp!) - oh it does chaf a bit! ops:
