Ill second that ROHM Viro-prop is totally painless and so is their NPP and its 200mg/ml. Im certain ROHM use ethyl oleate as a carrier which reduces pain markedly.
Pro-chem also have a new line out thats totally pain free (you probably wont see it for the next couple of months but my supplier gave me a batch to test). Their prop and as far as I can see their other products are made with ethyl oleate. On the bottle it also states the following solvents and their actual amounts, Benzyl benzoate, benzyl alcohol (as expected) but it also includes benzyl salicylate ( which keeps the depo in a liquid state and acts as an anti inflamatory) and
Triethanolamine. Triethanolamine nutrilises propanoic acid which causes pain associated with prop esters. it also rasies pH and forms a complex with any carboxylic acid impurities during compounding so after filtering the compound is much more pure and painless.
This maybe a bad move on Pro-chem's behalf becaue they are giving up their formula how ever for home brewers out their its good news.
If you test the PH of both ROHM and the new line Pro-chem prop compared to others like the Ph is higher so this indicated to me ROHM also uses Triethanolamine I also believe they may use benzocain base.
I know I don't have a post count or a reputation in the UK so to speak but I have worked in the pharma industry and am studying for a chemical engineering degree I have been active on the USA boards which is where I have been living for the last 5 years. Again this doesnt make me an authority on the subject but I have studied the UGL business since the early days.
