weight training will help to some degree but due to the law of specificity of training you'll notice more improvement in your sport simply from doing that sport more. furthermore, to argue for strength training is far too simplistic. studies have shown that training simply for strength leads to very little improvement in most sports- apart from maybe sports like rugby (isometric strength in scrums, mauls and rucks or sports) or those with grappling (judo, wrestling). the most transferable attribute that you can develop from training with weights is that of power and even that needs to be performed in sport specific movements.its important to make that distinction as power is far more important in sport than strength. how many sports can think of where movements are delivered at a slow velocity? not many.
