Yes, I think the deadlift is the one true test of strength. Powerlifting has evolved over the last ten years with suits and bench shirts, the squat and bench press are the two lifts that the equipped lifter really benefit from as they can add 100 of pounds to each lift. Its not the same with the deadlift!!

I do think you get a little gain with a deadlift suit but nowhere in the league of the other lifts. I have always loved the deadlift, it is the true test of strength. Watching people deadlift big weights is just as impressive as seeing a big bench, if not more. I really think the deadlift is a mental lift, you really have to get in to it. I get very emotional before I go for a bit deadlift it helps me lift better.

I have had the pleasure to see some big deadlifts, I was in the front row of the arena when Benni Magnesson pulled 440kgs in Helsinki Finland. He gets very focused when attempting a deadlift, its very inspirational to watch I had goose bumbs when he got the all time deadlift. Ive also seen Andy Bolton break the all time record a few times, Andy is a beast and realy gets a good response from the crowd when he lifts.

Another great deadlifter Ive watched is Konstans Konstantin, from Latvia. He is very impressive!!! He is a very lean 125kgs lifter and is scary looking (lol) I watched him pull 390kgs as a junior in Finland 2002, then 407.5kgs in Vienna 2004.

All in all the deadlift is the true test of strength. Good luck with your goals, if you want them bad enough you will get them.
