Don't worry about having a rest time for the CEE, just get straight back on it.

The most-recommended times to take whey protein are as soon as you wake up and straight after a workout.

It is not ideal before bed because it is a fast acting protein that will not see you through the 6 - 10 hours of sleep whereby you won't get any protein in. You could mix the whey with a pint of milk to help with this, or eat some meat before bed.

Also, its not 'essential'. Many people get on fine with 'whole foods' only, and there is an argument for this: whole food equivalents will contain more calories than the powder equivalents, meaning that you might more easily make your dietary goals when trying to maintain a high calorie diet.

PS, welcome to the site.
