The shoulders are a tricky joint. Unfortunately, shoulder injuries among weightlifters are quite prevalent. About 4 years ago I subluxed my left shoulder (I'm assuming this is what happened from your description). Whenever I would do any type of benching, my shoulder would actually sublux (partially dislocate) from the rear. Overall, it felt a whole lot more unstable than it had prior to the injury. In the end I had to see a physical therapist for a while to rehabilitate and strengthen the surrounding rotator cuff's muscles. All the time and effort I put into rehabilitating it was well worth it however. Stability is hardly a problem anymore and I can go Very heavy on bench with no worries or shoulder concerns.

If the pain is unbearable, I highly recommend Acupuncture. It is excellent for pain relief.
