I wouldn't say the dextrose you purchased was a waste of money, it's just not the holy grail of PWO like many people think.
Given the explosive nature of weight lifting you don't become massively glycogen deficient PWO, unless you're training sessions last 2 days.
The other reason I avoid dextrose, maltodextrin and the like is that it can lead fat storage, as my metabolism isn't as fast as it was (I'm 33) and I don't want to ingest high GI carbs.
