i usually do what u do igulp.
your talking about overdoing protein rather than underdoing it potentially, so i suppose it shouldnt really matter. overdo it and you'll just poo any out u dont need !
I believe that your protein absorbtion capability is higher post workout, so if u have a scoop of whey in water post workout that would be quickly absorbed as far as i know and its fine to produce something more substantial that will absorb over a longer period of time such as some chicken breast with jacket potato for example
