yes, but if they sell less but at a higher price, that might be more profitable for them.
if i sold 1000 of an item for 1 i would gross 1000, i'm maximising my sales output. but if i sold 500 of the item for 2.50, i'd make 1250.
Profit maximisation is very different to sales maximisation it just has to match the companies' interest and power in the given market
(sorry i did a level economics...)
