i had this problem so i put a small chair each side of the bench so if i lowerd it all the way the chairs would hold it about an inch or so of my chest so i could train to failer then rest it for a few seconds then have the strength to return it, bit like a make shift rack. did a similer thing with stools for squats
its not ideal or very safe but there we go
might be an idea to have your mobile in your pocket when doing it
