think of it like this, the average human hand can exert 25 pounds of pressure per square inch. now i know we are all hulking giants of men who rip entire phonebooks in half and sack small villages just because we can... but thats the norm. so if joe blow can squeeze at 25 lbs you hve to look at yourself and ask, "am i this joe bolw of which he speaks?" really though, i read that the average american football player (nfl) can only crush at 32-35 lbs. now that may seem a lot but when you think about it its only 7-10 lbs for someone in that much better condition. another thing to consider is the size of your forearms. since the muscles in the forearm dictate your grip you can judge this way too. if you have those monstrous ape-like fore's then youre probably going to have a crusher of a grip. skinny arms...start a little lighter. you dont really have to buy a special gadget for this though, for most people a tennis or racquet ball will do. even a plastic soda bottle with the top on or an unopened soda can can do in a pinch. as long as the seal holds the can or bottle will provide equal and opposite force when you squeeze it. basically because its sealed and the contents have nowhere to go they push back against your hand. and i have yet to see someone pop a soda can with one hand. hope this helps, just my 2 cents.
