I use dumbells and go straight up and down. No rolling of the shoulders. Traps are designed to move are shoulders up and down not back and forwards. And you would be supprised at how little weight you have to lift to make your traps grow. I see guys in the gym put tremendous weight on a bar to exercise what is a relatively small muscle. All this does for me is add to the risk of injury.
